tonight i didn't even attempt sleep. all at once i know why i don't allow myself to slip into such periods of unproductivity. tonight i have watched no less than 1/3 of the episodes of season 2 of Arrested Development (which i have fallen deeply in love with), several Julian Casablancas videos on youtube (including a few by the strokes and that one with the boiled goose which upon a second viewing was funnier), listened to a bunch of music, wikipedia-ed for a good half an hour, and rated like 200 movies on netflix. i feel so pop-cultured.
and, as of today, i will begin taking votes for the following:
which of the following tv shows should i invest my time in (choose one):
community
modern family
30 rock
should i begin to rate my music in itunes the way that i rate my movies on netflix?
yes/no
i want to read five books over the summer, might you be able to recommend one? (open answer)
on a scale of 1-5, how unaware of pop culture am i?
1 2 3 4 5
in your opinion, how much of that is due to my laziness, rejection of anything that everyone else is doing, or trying to focus on other things that i find more important but actually may not be? (1 being 20%, 5 being 100%, please be sure all answers add up to 100%)
laziness 1 2 3 4 5
rejection... 1 2 3 4 5
other focus 1 2 3 4 5
I vote yes for Community, I would vote yes for Modern Family but I guess not, and I’ve never seen 30 Rock, only heard good things
ReplyDeleteI say no for rating your music because on Netflix you’re rating the movies by specific things and I think it would be hard to rate ALL your music with the same consistency. Sure it’s hard comparing Pulp Fiction and Anchorman but I think comparing The Old 97’s and Michael Jackson is much worse.
I got nothing in the way of books and I don’t really understand the rest of the questions
I think you should should give Modern Family another shot and watch 'Starry Night'. It's a good episode for Gloria, and it's cute and funny
ReplyDeletei vote 30 rock hands down; interesting, non-commital but easy to get hooked on.
ReplyDeleteDO NOT RATE MUSIC, but you already have, so fail on your part.
books: superfreakonomics (i haven't finished but is good so far), Tipping Point (if you haven't read it, as it is, Malcolm Gladwell just like spins shit up so it's best taken with a grain of salt), Bottom Billion by Paul Collier as I've already mentioned (it's a good read, but is more dry than the other things I've mentioned), Jason's sister Annie recommended I read Gone with the Wind, the World is Flat (i have a book on tape of this so you wouldn't have to physically sit and read it if you don't want to- it's a little older but in general, still pretty accurate), a nice fun book that I read was "An Abundance of Katherines" where this kid tries to come up with a mathematical function to describe how his love life will go written by one of the Brothers 2.0.
unaware of pop culture: I'd say you're a 3. You're not like super great with now pop culture, but the fact that you know a lot about history of pop culture is good. You beat me when it comes to film, which is weird, because you should really invest more time in television because it's free.
Jason is like a 1.5. I'm like a 3.5, I'd say, if you're just including like, TV/movies and leaving out music, etc.
Laziness: 3
Rejection: 1
Other things: 1
Way to inject random unnecessary math into my already busy/stressful life.
To explain my choices, most of the time, you blaim rejection for you not caring enough to check it out. You actually do have a shit-ton of time (at least, compared to me) so really, you could do to try and check out pop-culture. But I mean, it doesn't really matter anyway.
